Veterans Night and Essay Awards Night

What a great night!

Each year the Public Schools Committee puts on a Veterans Night and awards the Essay contest winners. 2007 was an outstanding year. Over 1000 essays were submitted and graded by Lodge Members and the awards night was a full house.

Sheriff Joe Arpio was in attendance and spoke as well as the Superintendent of schools Tom Horn. Wow! Bro. Shane and Bro. Sager sure have connections!

Here are some photos from the night:

Talk about a full house! I haven't seen the lodge packed like this. Brethren, Students, Teachers, Vets, Parents etc all filled the lodge room. There was a dinner before hand cooked by our Brothers which everyone enjoyed. What a showing it was to have to carry more chairs into the lodge room - it was amazing and what a great job to get the word out!

For the vets the Young Marines were in attendance and presented the flags. It was quite the show having the young men up front twirling their rifles. It must be tough and take some real coordination and concentration to not drop those rifles. Great job to the young men and their Sergeant.
Also the Luke AFB Honor Guard was there to present and fold the flag. It was very well done and I learned again the proper way. It is one thing to be careful when folding Ol' Glory and another to see the Luke AFB Guard do it! It was awesome. Great job.

And the kids and teachers were proud! Bro. Shane and the Superintendent pose with each teacher (there were many awards given out) as well as each student. It was obvious how important this was to the kids, the teachers and the parents. You can tell when a kid is proud of something they have accomplished and this night there were many proud kids! Great job teachers and parents!
